Työn tarkoituksena on laatia ratalain ja Väyläviraston ohjeiden mukainen ratasuunnitelma välillä Kattilakoski-Pello (ratakilometrit 970+850 – 1004+260). Kattilakoski-Pello ratasuunnitelma on osa Väyläviraston Tornio - Kolari sähköistyksen suunnitteluhanketta. Suunnittelukohde sijaitsee Lapin maakunnassa Pellon kunta-alueella rataosalla 2203 (Tornio) – Kolari, joka on sähköistämätön, yksiraiteinen sekaliikennerata. Suunnittelualueelle sijoittuu mm. Pellon liikennepaikka, 18 tasoristeystä, 9 tunnistettua pehmeikköaluetta, 2 kallioavoleikkausta, 8 ratasiltaa, Juoksengin, Turtolan ja Pellon ylikulkusillat sekä Pellon ylikulkukäytävä. Suunnittelu sisältää rataosan sähköistyksen kannalta välttämättömät toimenpiteet Kattilakoski - Pello välisellä rataosuudella sekä rataosuuden turvallisuutta ja toiminnallisuutta parantavia toimenpiteitä. Toimeksiannossa suunnitellaan mm. rataosuudelle sähköistys, sähköistyksen vaatimat tilavaraukset, Pellon syöttöasema (Juoksenki), Turtolan, Pellon ja Juoksengin ylikulkusiltojen sekä Pellon ylikäytäväsillan uusimiset, pohjanvahvistustoimenpiteitä, kuivatuksen parantamista, tasoristeysturvallisuuden parantamista, sekä poroaitoja.[E7]
