The Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) service is integrated with the national Pharmacy Contraception Service (PCS), allowing pharmacists to prescribe oral hormonal contraception for both new and repeat prescriptions. This service eliminates the need for clients to visit a General Practice (GP) or clinic, streamlining access to contraception. Providers must adhere to national clinical guidelines and safeguarding policies, including the assessment of Fraser competence for young people. Key standards and guidelines include: • FSRH Clinical Guideline: Emergency Contraception (March 2017, amended July 2023) • FSRH Clinical Guideline: Contraceptive Choices for Young People (2019) • FSRH Clinical Guideline: Barrier Methods for Contraception and STI Prevention (2015) • NICE Guidance PH51: Contraceptive Services for Under 25s (2014) • UK Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use (UKMEC) By integrating these national frameworks with local priorities, the EHC service aims to address health inequalities and empower residents to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health The Provider is responsible for delivering Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) services in line with national guidelines and safeguarding protocols.
