About the requirement

Die Stadt Essen verfolgt das strategische Ziel, bis spätestens 2045 Klimaneutralität zu erreichen. Ein zentraler Baustein dieses Transformationsprozesses ist die Dekarbonisierung der Wärmeversorgung. Im Gebiet Essen-Überruhr/Burgaltendorf bestehen derzeit ungenutzte Potenziale für die Nutzung erneuerbarer Energiequellen. Der aktuelle Wärmebedarf von ca. 98,6 GWh/a verteilt sich auf rund 13.110 Wohneinheiten, wobei Erdgas mit einem Anteil von etwa 58 % gegenwärtig die dominierende Versorgungsart darstellt. Weitere 26 % des Bedarfs sind derzeit nicht eindeutig zugeordnet und entfallen auf nicht leitungsgebundene Energieträger. Um die Klimaziele zu erreichen und eine nachhaltige Wärmeversorgung sicherzustellen, hat die Stadtwerke Essen Machbarkeitsstudien durchgeführt. Diese zeigen, dass die Versorgung der Grund- und Mittellast künftig durch die Nutzung von Grubenwasser, Flusswasser und Klarwasser grundsätzlich gewährleistet werden kann. Im Rahmen der Machbarkeitsstudie wurden darüber hinaus Flusswasser und Klarwasser als potenzielle Wärmequellen untersucht; diese werden im weiteren Projektverlauf jedoch nicht weiterverfolgt. Als einzige natürliche Wärmequelle verbleibt das Grubenwasser der Zeche Heinrich. Die erzeugte Wärmemenge soll über ein neu zu errichtendes Wärmenetz verteilt werden, das im Endausbau rund 4.137 Gebäude versorgen wird.
